Linn Grove, Iowa  is located on the Inkpaduta Canoe Trail, a 131-mile-long historical river trail. Take a timeless trip on the Little Sioux River.

Start in Sioux Rapids at the Highway 71 bridge boat ramp and float to Linn Grove. This trip will take about 4 hours when the river is flowing swiftly, and is the best choice for viewing wildlife including ducks, geese, herons, beaver, muskrats, and river otters. Morning departures offer the best wildlife viewing.  There are no rapids on the Little Sioux River, but lifejackets are required, especially in the spring when the stream current is swift. Fallen trees require some skillful maneuvering to avoid a spill.  Watch for a sign warning you about the upcoming dam, and prepare to get off the river at the boat ramp above the dam. Another alternative is to start at Kindlespire Park north of Sioux Rapids and go from there to Linn Grove, it's about a 7 hour trip.

Start at the boat ramp below the dam, and float to Peterson, Iowa. This trip takes about 5 1/2 to 7 hours depending on how fast you paddle. Lots of sandbars make for some relaxing stops along the river. You can see where the C&NW railroad once passed over the river in several places, don't be surprised if you encounter fishermen on the riverbanks, there are several popular catfish holes along the Little Sioux River downstream from the Linn Grove Dam. If you're getting off the river at the first bridge near Wanata State Park, you will find the embankment rather steep to pull the canoe up to the roadside. The best place to get off the river is at the boat ramp just before you get to the second bridge just west of Peterson.

Linn Grove is known as the Catfish Capitol of Iowa, but walleye are also often caught below the dam, especially during the mid-April spawning season. Fishing is a popular pastime at the dam for all ages. Bait is available for sale at local businesses.

Shaded primitive campsites are available on the North side of the dam.

The Linn Grove Dam Area includes picnic areas, picnic tables, fire rings, water hydrant, and benches on the north riverbank. The site is maintained by the Buena Vista County Conservation Department. The park is maintained by the Buena Vista County Conservation Department. Nearby Buena Vista County Park also has campsites with water, electricity, and showers.

Hikers and bikers find plenty of room to explore around Linn Grove. Take a walk up the old steps on the east side of our main street - Weaver Street -   for an interesting vantage point of the town.

The bald eagles take up residence on the Little Sioux River during the winter months, and are often seen fishing in the open water below the dam in the morning and again in late afternoon. Viewing from a distance is best so bring binoculars or your long zoom lens, as they usually will fly away when you get too close.

With the woods and water, songbirds, ducks, geese, and hawks are in abundance.
